On Sunday, April 6, 2025, our annual mushroom picking event took place for the nineteenth time, and we had been eagerly anticipating it. Over 250 nature lovers and enthusiasts of Polish traditions ventured to Belanglo State Forest to search for saffron and butter mushrooms. Although the forest did not reward us with an abundance of mushrooms this time, we were able to find a few exceptional specimens. The biggest discovery was an impressive edible mushroom, from the Hericiaceae family, weighing in at 338 grams. However, the real highlight of the day turned out to be… yabbie fishing! At a nearby pond, hidden among the trees, children (and not just children!) eagerly tested different fishing methods. There was no shortage of joy. The largest crayfish – magnificent, shiny, and feisty – weighed 107 grams and caused quite a stir. We sincerely thank everyone who returns every year to celebrate this special event with us, as well as those who joined for the first time – we hope to see you again next year.
