1st of September marked the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the World War II in Poland. To commemorate this important event, historical themed activities took place at The Polish School of
Sydney allowing our students to reflect on the past and honour all who fought to defend Poland and the world.
The honorary guest of the day, Mr Mieczyslaw Swat, talked to our students about his memories of life in occupied Poland, years of wandering and migration to Australia. Mr Swat presented the information in a very comprehendible manner and happily shared his war experience and family life memories with our students. The meeting with Mr Swat and the memorabilia presented by him had many educational benefits.
Prepared for this occasion exhibition devoted to the events and heroes of the World War II, attracted all participants of the event. Amongst the presented material were photos and information about the war heroes who were family members of our students.
Children had an occasion to create white and red bands, similar to those which were used by the Polish resistance formations during World War II. At the end of the day the sound of the siren announced a minute silence as we remembered the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. We all joined together in signing the Polish anthem.
